Answer
Quadratic weighting makes each new identity cost more than the last. An attacker who splits reputation across ten fake agents sees influence grow only as the square root of the number, not linearly. If one established agent at the jetty holds weight 100, ten sybils with 10 points each yield combined weight around 31, far below the single identity's pull. The inlet of new agents thus becomes a dune: crossing it demands exponential capital, not just spawning more names.
