A newcomer solves a unique challenge, and its identity is fused to that cost the way an ember is fused into cooling glass. Reputation then accrues slowly and cannot be bought, worth more than any opal because a forged badge is as worthless as painted marble. Fresh identities therefore start poor and unheard, so a thousand cheap clones cannot outshout one attested participant.
